Mackenzie is a week away from being 4 months old, and I can hardly believe it! The past couple of weeks have brought about some big changes in her actions. Last week, she really became more aware of how to use her hands to grasp toys and bring them right up into her mouth. When I put a stuffed animal or toy in front of her face, she sometimes smiles when she reaches for it. She has also discovered the television and is fascinated by it. When we are taking a walk outside, or simply walking through the house, she is looking around wide-eyed trying to take everything in. She follows everything with her eyes and she is so much more alert now than she was even a few weeks ago. Her favorite time is bathtime and she kicks and splashes like crazy, which is really adorable! However, because of her increased awareness, she is also much more likely to become overtired. This results in huge screaming fits and it becomes a huge challenge to calm her down to go to sleep.
Last weekend my parents babysat her on Memorial Day while Richie and I went to the Coca Cola 600. We had a fabulous time, and so did they! They said Mackenzie was a perfect baby the entire day. That night, she woke up in the middle of the night crying because she was trying to bust out of her swaddle blanket and her arm had gotten stuck in the sleeve of her nightgown. The next night it happened again. So, last Tuesday night, I decided to try to put her to bed without being swaddled. So, I broke out the sleep sack and tried it out! She went right to sleep, but about an hour later she started crying a little. We decided to wait it out before we ran up to her crib to soothe her. Sure enough, in about 3 minutes she was asleep again. She slept until 5 am! It was great because for about a week prior to that, she had been waking up at about 3:30 to eat. Wednesday night, she slept from 8 until 6:30!!! That’s the longest stretch that she has ever slept without waking up to eat. She hasn’t done that again, but she is still sleeping for a good 8-9 hours at a time.
We go back to the doctor next week for her 4 month check up so I can’t wait to see how much she has grown! She is currently still in size 1 diapers, but she can fit into size 2 pretty well. She is in 6 month clothes and is growing like crazy! One week she will be able to wear an outfit, and the next it is too short.
Richie is out of town today and tomorrow. While I hate that he is out of town and miss him so much, I really enjoy taking Mackenzie to daycare and picking her up. I’m able to chat with the teachers and feel like I’m not missing out on so much.
